I'm reluctant to go for a stiffer stem as im already riding an alloy frame. I might give the Thomson stem another shot but go for X4 and maybe upgrade to their carbon bars to match the post I've got, and just hope it doesn't slip. If not, flog the lot and look at some of the brands Kinchy said.

My mates are plotting a short ride in Europe from Calais to Bruges but are pretty clueless about it so any other suggestions of places to ride from Calais are welcome.

I went from Cherbourg all the way to Malta. I can't really suggest routes but if you have any questions regarding other things fire away and I'd be happy to answer them.

New passion: cx on singletrack. Rode several miles of rocky Barton Creek Greenbelt today, what a hoot!
