Fixed gear bikes/ Post your big bikes V2

I managed to get a couple of rides in before going away last week, sherwood pines & Cannock for the first time.
Cannock highlighted an issue with the forks which I initially thought was a loose headset, I've got a rattling when the fork is under very light load & some slight movement on the stansion which is making me think the bushings are a little worn. Got my eyes on a lightly used set of lowers so I can just swap out the lowers & see if that solves it.

What did you reckon to Cannock? Second half after the bridge and road is my favourite bit.

Loved it, no way I'll be going to pines again. I need to improve my fitness considerably as I was dead after both loops. The alpine suits the downhill far better than any climbs!
_tom_:
I only really like the last two descents of the monkey trail (m7 or something, and lower cliff) before you head back over the railway and back onto follow the dog, find the rest of it kinda boring with more climbing/pedalling than fun bits. It's not bad for a quick spin though.
I'm thinking of getting a lightweight xc bike for getting the miles in, maybe a Canyon or something. Question is, do I go 650b or 29er? Or cash in on a cheaper 26" model? I'm only 5'9" with a 29" inside leg so a bit worried about standover and a decent seat-bar drop on a 29er.

I've got a week in may booked to see my parents in France. They're about 45 minutes outside of Limoges. I'll be bringing the road bike. Its not like it's cycling mecca or anything but should get some decent rides in.
