Nike Janoski are a decent equivalent to Vans. The Nikes hold up far better, look better, and have a plethora of colours to choose from.

Vans TNT II and TNT V. Era Pro go OK too.

my etnies number low treated me well although they looked very tatty after only two weeks, functioned as a shoe perfectly well though. i dont think they are made anymore though.

my last two pairs of shoes have been emerica heretics and emerica hsu both have been great, a really stiff sole.

Probably these, although I got some dubious looking Nike Renzos from Sports Direct towards the end of 2011 and they're still going! They look horrible but appear to be indestructible. I run a brake but also commute in them so they've been used a lot.

JFax:
I bought some calf leather Vans OTW in Hong Kong. Amazing shoe thats thin and super durable and I can wear them out and look all fancy
