D: You're right! I'm gonna go deposit a check and do that.
hugh.:
that looks too nice to ride haha. also that weld table a few posts up is awesome
Sasper:
I made a titanium rose for my girlfriend
I had to use different OD tubes and get them turned down to around 1mm , what a waste but what you gonna do :) there was no plate material under 3mm so I had to use tubes.
pics
tubes that are turned , and also you can see the "stem" , which is 5mm thick
heres the first petal , I cut these with an angelgrinder and used a grinding/sanding disk to smooth the sharp edges. I used a vicepress and a hammer to either make a tube smaller or bigger until I got to the biggest tube.
here are the leaves , the stem for these is the 2mm thick TIG rod
I slowly "welded" over these with 12 amps to get the colors
getting there
foggy pic but heres how it looks
It took 7 hours for me to make and I am little sad , because I could have made it a bit nicer, but I didn't have enough time. she loves it though.
It was for her bday, so I said hey honey , wanna see some pics I took at work, shes like ahh do I have to? I said Yes , and I started with the tubes till I got to the rose and then I took it out and gave it to her. she loves it.
If anyone is planning to make one, use thinner titanium than 1mm.I tried to make the leaves like bent in the middle , but it was too thick to get it nice.
also, it was my first time welding titanium , I really love how easy it is to control the puddle, but it really needs to be purged all the way around to get a strong joint. I didnt use any backpurge ( afterflow was 10 seconds though ) and the back of the stem turned white and ugly rightaway.
Bunsincunsin:
That's pretty cool, Sasper; have you made stuff like this before? How much were the materials?
There was an art exhibit in the fine arts center at my school this fall with some really cool metal sculptures from a local artist. You can do some really cool stuff with metal!

thanks :)
I really haven't done much, but some years ago I made a stainless steel bong.
Where I work it is not allowed to make your own stuff, but I asked nicely and got a permission to do so.
the tubes cost me 40 euros , thats ~53 dollars, I did use most of it but not all.
I have all these ideas , but cant afford to buy my own Tig welder and such.
EDIT: compared to your skills I am like a monkey with a hammer.
