Why?

What is with the rip-off companies lately...

1664 has only 2 original products.,. Forks and bars. The rest of their products are just the same Taiwan crap everyone else is selling. Ok you want a bike company fine, do something with it to help, don't do it to make a quick buck, and do the same as every other joker does. This is what happened last time BMX died. Everyone and their brother was starting a company and it was all the same stuff from the same company.

1664 just typifies it. They are far from the only one.

Take a look at the seat clamp. Granted, everyone has one. They cant all look different. However taking the same exact part # as another company and changing the silk screen on it, is just generic.

Chain.. Didn't Kink already try this.. Take a 415 and put it in your own bag and re-sell it for more?

Hubs, give me a break.. One company in Taiwan is cranking these damn hubs out for 50 companies. And you guys wonder why I have a hard time telling which are best and good?

Again, I realize certain parts there just cannot be much creativity.. Seat posts for one.

Ever look at the 1664 headset cups.. I can probably guess where those are from.. Take a look at a Tank F/S top cup.. Looks awfully familiar. I could be wrong since I have not held them next to each other. But they sure seem alike.

Another company took the Demolition Num Chucks and copied those. Why the fuck you would want to, is beyond me. Personally they were the worst pegs i have seen in years. Every rail dented them. After one night I could barely get a wrench in them.

Many of you guys are buying parts like this. "I broke so-and-so's hub, should I get this one.,,. Will it be better.. "

NO!!! Its the same fucking hub!

Take a look at the parts in Dan's Comp. Poverty Freecoaster, Haro Turbine, and Odyssey Freecoaster. All made by the same company. Take a look at other hubs.. Don't those axle nuts all look familiar.. What about bearing cones...

ALL CLONES! They are not better, they are the same.

They go to Taiwan, and they get handed a catalog. You pick one, and have them paint your name on it, and it arrives in a huge box in a week. You don't even have to go over there!

Sanfu is guilty, Primo is guilty, Odyssey is, almost every parts company is. DK, Hoffman, Voxom, shall I go on?

Shit, at least S&M admits they use a clone seat clamp, and charge you a cloned price for it.

These small start ups that just want to sell you cloned parts.. just say NO!,. They wont be in for long. They are only here to make a fast buck. If they have no real original parts, it means its some guy in a closet, ordering generic stuff from Taiwan and selling it to you. Odds are, he could careless about the sport. Say all you want here. Its the truth.

Odyssey, Snafu, and Primo actually do make some original stuff.

But for many of these small companies, closing down is a matter of disconnecting the phone!

Rider owned or not, makes no fucking difference. Even they can be in it for for money only.

We have enough parts companies, we do not need clone companies. All it does is detract from the real ones. If they have nothing to add or improve, don't buy from them. They only care about one thing. Money.

If you are thinking of starting a company, PLEASE, for the sport, make something original. Pick a part that needs to be improved and do it. Don't just order it from Taiwan with your name stamped on it. We have plenty of them. All they are doing is hurting the legit ones.

My point is, buy parts that work, not because of who makes them. If you do that, you will automatically be buying from companies who truly care about our sport. If its rider owned all the better, but I refuse to buy recycled/cloned parts just because its rider owned, and you should too. It could be some old man who loves bikes, as long as he does it to help the sport, I will buy from him. Why does he have to be a rider to be respected for helping us.

You guys wonder why I dislike certain companies and would like to start my own.. This is why...
